Are You An Ex-pat or "New" Mexican?

Are You An Ex-pat or "New" Mexican?

Moving away from your homeland

If you've ever traveled before, even for a short period of time, you've found a lot of differences in between your country and the one you are visiting, right? And probably couldn't help to make a remark about how “weird” something is, or as many others would say, “crazy”.

When you make a decision as important as moving away from your homeland, you have to be absolutely sure that culture shock is just around the bend, and there is no way that you can be prepared for everything. Moving to Cabo is as difficult as any city worldwide. "Why?", you might ask. Because it is part of Mexico, and believe me, it could be a whole new ball game.

Baja has all the things that anybody could want: sun, golf courses, great hotels, restaurants, beaches, and most importantly, a great opportunity to invest in property, sounds good, right? I am sure that I named at least one reason for you to move here.

But what about the real stuff? Like groceries, services, activities, friends, and community?

Making yourself at home in a foreign country

Rest assured that you will find almost all you need to make yourself at home, however, dealing with people on a regular basis could be difficult, tiring and frustrating. Why? Because you forgot one thing: how it is to deal with local people in everyday life.

You might find a lot of different opinions about living in Baja, but it is all about you, and how prepared you are to be here. A lot of things that are easy to do in your homeland, could be quite the task here, and I know, it could be frustrating. But who cares? You are in paradise!!

Being a foreigner in Los Cabos, whether you are American, Canadian, Mexican, German, etc. is all about relaxing and enjoying the time you are here. You might miss some things from home, but mark my words, a home is where you feel comfortable. And family is who you surround yourself with, so just forget about blending in, be yourself. If somebody loved you back home, somebody will here.

Before I forget, to all of you that have been here long…

When did you realize you were a local?

I hope you've enjoyed the reading, and feel free to ask anything. Because in the end, you are now as much a part of Baja as I am.
